Believe it or not, the Mirror Project's 10,000th image went up the other day. Congrats to all involved. For those not keeping track, that's an average of roughly 9 entries per day over the past three years. I'd love to see a graph of the monthly submission volume since the beginning.
If you haven't sent in a pic yet, do so now.

css_signature
I just added id="centricle-com" to the body element throughout this site. This allows you to change the site's appearance by including corresponding rules in your user style sheet. For example, if you who have trouble reading because of the green background, you can change it by adding #centricle-com {background:#fff} to your user.css, and it shouldn't affect any other sites.
Eric Meyer brought this up on css-d this past weekend, but the idea has been mentioned before on the list. And, in a recent thread on CIWAS, Karl Smith suggested a tentative name for this technique: CSS Signatures.

yahoo
Just for kicks, I reworked Yahoo's front page using XHTML 1.1 with CSS for layout. It's not a mirror copy of the original, but is intended to demonstrate that it's not only possible for the authors of large, mainstream websites to use valid structural markup, but that there are clear benefits in doing so.
My version is roughly half the size of Yahoo's, so the immediate & obvious advantage would be in bandwidth savings.
IE 5 & up and Gecko-based browsers handle it fine, and I went ahead & tweaked the styles to deliver something reasonable to Netscape 4.x users. It shouldn't be much trouble to do so for IE 4.x.

terminal
This one's important: Apple released a security update for Jaguar that plugs a hole in Teminal.app that would allow an attacker to remotely execute arbitrary commands on the user's system.

ibrowse
With iCal's release, the only standard desktop applications that Apple isn't producing in-house are a web browser & financial management software.
Will we be seeing a Mozilla-based iBrowse soon?

webhost_info
Jason's Webhost Info Tool is a handy little gadget, displaying HTTP headers & some other useful stats. Here's a favelet that allows you to query the tool directly:
Get Webhost InfoIt works in IE5.x & Mozilla on MacOS, but I have no idea about others.

pepper
I finally got around to reading John Gruber's interview with Pepper author Maarten Hekkelman at Daring Fireball. Lots of good stuff in there, but the most interesting tidbit for me was the revelation that You can buy bonus points [from Tucows] and they will be added to your product's rating
.
Why am I not surprised?

displays
A $200 upgrade from the high-end 15" iMac gets you 20GB more HD space, an upgraded video card, and a 17" widescreen display, but if you're looking to purchase just a monitor, you'll need to shell out $400 to move up from the 15" Apple Studio Display to its 17" counterpart.
At this point, the 17" widescreen is used exclusively on the iMac, so it seems like it'd be a pretty expensive piece of equipment. I'm curious to see if a change in the Studio Display line follows soon, but I'm not holding my breath for a price cut.
